The advantages of walking
Walking is the most natural form of exercise known to man. Almost anyone with a pair of healthy legs can do it. It need not be taught; neither does it need practice.
It is safe, simple, can be done anytime at any sort of weather or clothing and above all it comes free. All you need to do is just get up and walk your way to health.
Regular walking brings with it plenty of health benefits. Here are some of them:
Healthy heart:
Regular walking lowers cholesterol levels that can harm your heart. Additionally walking also prevents high blood pressure which is a precursor for heart disease. If you already have high blood pressure (hypertension) , walking will help reduce it and bring it in control.
Diabetes:
Regular walking reduces your risk of developing Diabetes and enhances your body’s capacity to process sugar, lower blood sugar and reduce risk of heart disease. This also applies to individuals who already have Diabetes.
Obesity:
Regular walking can prevent weight gain and keep you in great shape. For example, middle-aged women who walk more than 10,000 steps a day have lower levels of body fat than do women who are less active.
Stress:
Regular walking helps you manage stress effectively and boosts your spirits. It also helps drive away depression and anxiety.
Endurance:
Walking improves your physical strength and endurance levels. It also strengthens your Immune System toward off infections.
Tips for walking
Make ample preparations before you go for a walk. The following are some tips on how you can enhance your walking experience:
1. Wear shoes and socks that are comfortable. Use cotton socks; avoid synthetic material as they do not allow sweat to evaporate.
2. Wear loose protective clothing, preferably cotton ones. Dress in accordance to weather conditions. Wear bright colors after dark so that motorists can spot you.
3. Do warm-up sessions—walk slowly for about 5 min until your muscles warm up. Warming up your muscles reduces your risk of injury.
4. After warming up, perform stretching exercises for about 5 min before walking.
5. To reduce stress on your heart and muscles, end each walking session by walking slowly for about 5 min. Then, repeat your stretches.
6. If you are so out of breath that you cannot carry on a conversation with the person you are walking with, you are probably walking too fast and should slow down.
Staying motivated
Starting a walking program may not be easy. You may be constantly discouraged due to a variety of reasons—bad weather, lack of sleep or too much work. Whatever your reasons may be, remember that it takes patience and persistence to stick to your resolution of walking regularly.
The health benefits that regular walking brings will overshadow all difficulties and it is well worth your effort
Here are some tips to keep you motivated:
1. Walk with your spouse, friend, neighbor or colleague to make it more interesting
2. Take different routes—this will add to the variety.
3. Walking, like most things, is habit forming and you may develop the habit over time.
In conclusion:
Walking has immense health benefits and it is the easiest exercise on this planet. All it takes is some commitment to take your first step and then follow it up with 9999 more steps everyday

You can co-create your destiny
You can co-create your destiny
Take responsibility of your life and learn from the past
Human beings are very rarely happy with what they get. More often than not, be it a spouse who simply does not understand the yearnings of your heart, success which teasingly eludes you, childhood abuse, an unexpected medical diagnosis, a lifetime of chasing bills and their payments. We often find life out of control. ‘But why me?’ is a syndrome of the victim which we perceive ourselves to be. I could have done better and been happier, if I had more understanding parents, if my marriage had worked out, if I was physically fit or more qualified. If the planets had been slightly more favourable. The list is endless!!
We remain mired in this play of “ifs” and “buts” until one day there is a turning point and one realises that one will never be happy in a thousand years if one always is going to need something external to ones self to fulfill and make one truly happy. When we become extremely determined to get out of the endless misery of discontent and powerlessness of the victim mind set, we question life’s laws and justice and search within with the torch of an honesty, which initially digs out the dirty nooks (greed, jealousy, anger, selfishness) and then also illumines the strengths.
You also discover or uncover a theme or pattern in your life. Some of us have a habit of getting attracted to those who are insincere and unfaithful. Some are accident-prone and others are ‘failure-prone’. A person with a clawing parent often ends up with a clawing spouse. Generally a person who goes for a remarriage without having allowed the lessons of the first marriage to sink in and transform, repeats the flavor in the second marriage as well. Some go job hopping and others find themselves at eternal loggerheads with authority figure – be it father or boss. Another person may have a life pattern of always encountering a person who is demanding and possessive. The tune of the theme song is so familiar, only the lyrics slightly change.

Regulating haste while meditating
Regulating haste while meditating
Haste is created when one is in a hurry to experience the bliss of meditation, which in turn hinders one from reaching meditative bliss
Meditation has been recognized as the most potent spiritual practice benefiting and enhancing ones life dramatically. It is a tool, which attempts to transcend the person to eternity, and the bliss is so much that one perhaps wants to enjoy it forever, blissfully unaware about the duration of the meditative journey.
Each session stands out as the milestone for the next meditative ecstasy and this is fairly addictive. One tends to fall into the trap of overexcitement and haste, resultantly not able to meditate blissfully.
By doing the following prevent haste in meditation
Do not expect
Preconceived notions and ideas about the experiences of meditation from self or others, actually takes one away from it. As one keeps hoping to see and feel what he / she wants to see, it is as good as thinking quietly rather than meditating. Therefore, one needs to be like a child oblivious without expectations, of what one may experience.
Do not compare
Each time one starts meditating one needs to acknowledge it as a unique session and start afresh. The thought of getting into the groove of blissful experience in the past slows down the progress and one gets fixated to an experience thereby loosing the opportunity of new experiences. Hence, avoid comparing.
Auto-suggest that you having all the time in the world
While meditating if one realizes the he / she is falling into the trap of haste of reaching the peak of bliss experienced in the past, start auto-suggesting that “I have all the time in the world”, “I am born only to do this”, “My work in this life is just to meditate”, “I am here to know myself”.
Breathe as slowly as you can
To prevent haste from taking over one should breathe as slowly as one can. Take 5-7 seconds to inhale, take another 5 seconds to hold on to breath and exhale in 5-7 seconds.

The knack of getting into trouble
The knack of getting into trouble
Why do drug addicts hang around with fellow drug addicts? Why do spiritual satsang-attendees hang around with similar-minded people?
What is the Page 3 culture all about with everybody who’s part of it talking about dress, stress and less? Why do some people attract wealth wherever they go and whatever they do? Why do we find ourselves sometimes thinking the same thought throughout the week or month? Why is it that some people always have a knack of getting into trouble, like Harbhajan Singh and Sreesanth, and why do some always attract success, like Dhoni? The answer lies in an oft-repeated and randomly-used word: frequency.
We all have a frequency. We operate on one. Our frequency is determined by our breathing rate, and this frequency determines the vibration of the atoms inside us. Everything – living, non-living, animate, inanimate - vibrates because everything comprises atoms. When one person’s vibration is harmonious with another’s, they exclaim, “Oh, we share a similar frequency!” Or “we vibe well” or “our tuning matches”.
In other words, we use physics terms like ‘frequency’, ‘vibration’, ‘tuning’, etc., in our everyday lingo without really understanding the true meaning of the sentences. Put another way, we end up using words that actually denote the big truth, but we simply don’t realise that.
So, two people resonating similarly will have similar interests, tastes, etc., and those whose frequencies don’t match, will have cat-fights galore. “Oh they just can’t ‘get along’ with each other” we say. ‘Get along’ or in other words, ‘resonate’. Likewise, if a person’s frequency resonates with the frequency of a book, that book will become that person’s ‘favourite’ book. Ditto with chair (my favourite chair), food item, toy, corner, etc.
Operating on a set frequency can also give rise to attachments. For instance, different activities or thought processes – like spirituality, sex, reading, gossiping, gambling, cleaning, etc. - have different frequencies. Ordinarily speaking, we call this ‘addiction’. Have you seen people who cannot get sleep without getting their daily dose of gossip? How about those who are addicted to talking and thinking about sex? Then there are some people who are addicted to being scrupulously clean. They keep on cleaning everything. We also call this OCD – Obsessive Compulsive Behaviour.
All these categories of people are ‘frequency-victims’ ie. they are like damaged long-playing records that keeps tripping on a particular point while rotating on the spindle. They will continue to operate on the same frequency as if on autopilot till something happens that suddenly changes their frequency. A typical example would be people who start behaving completely differently from their usual self, after witnessing the death of a close one.
If you find yourself doing an activity repeatedly and want to get rid of that habit, practise slow breathing. A simple way to do this is to watch your breathing – as the air goes in and comes out of your nostrils. Just the act of watching will slow down your breathing. Prolonged differential rate of breathing will change your frequency will snap you out of your addiction.
Remember, there are only two truths in this world – one is you breathe; the other is you will die. Death is not in your hands, but breathing definitely is. It is up to you how correctly you want to breathe. Well, the yogic science of pranayama is all about that, isn’t it?

The perfect antidote to stress
The perfect antidote to stress
Conscious Relaxation involves relaxing the body bit by bit in a controlled, aware manner and is extremely refreshing and rejuvenating
Stress has become such an integral part of our lives, we end up rushing from pillar to post, thought to thought, with little or no regard for our bodies. No wonder a majority of ailments today are stress related ranging from physical symptoms like an increased blood pressure to mental symptoms like reduced concentration and depression.
The perfect antidote to stress is Conscious Relaxation, which is simply allowing our bodies to relax bit by bit in a controlled, aware manner. Not only is it extremely refreshing and rejuvenating, with every exhalation we release the build up of negative energies, toxins and tensions slowly but surely.
Many techniques exist for Conscious Relaxation. These include meditative techniques, Yoga Nidra, progressive muscle relaxation, and techniques used in Hypnotherapy. They are available in the form of classes, CDs and books and can be done by anyone, at anytime, anywhere.
Conscious Relaxation needs no added skill and simply taps into what our human bodies are designed to do naturally, which is breathe and relax. Easy to practice and not requiring more than 20 minutes, a singular session of conscious body relaxation is equivalent to hours of sleep and rest. If practiced daily for as little as 20 minutes, it has the following benefits:
Boosting of energy levels. Energy levels automatically go up when the body relaxes, which makes you more productive and focused in your tasks and chores
You smile more and feel better about yourself. Studies have revealed those who consciously relaxed were more positive in their outlook and were generally optimistic
By consciously letting go of suppressed emotional energies like anger, anxiety and sadness, you will end up feeling lighter after a session of conscious relaxation
Body organs function normally and over time, immunity increases
Decreases muscle tension and allows the release of suppressed mental and emotional energy, promoting feelings of well-being and harmony
Better problem solving abilities and greater concentration especially for students

Quick techniques to restore positive energy
Quick techniques to restore positive energy
The stress of daily life can drain your energy. Find out how you can replenish it
Positive energy is something we can never get enough of, especially in today’s fast paced world that’s full of stress and deadlines. Self-healing is a simple energy healing technique that you can do by yourself for a few minutes. It helps bring your energies back, balances and self heals and also helps re-centre and ground you, especially on days when you feel overwhelmed by multiple demands on your time, or when you feel drained by people and places.
Here are a few time-tested tips, which may help boost your supply of positive energy:
Feel the earth beneath your feet for a few seconds. Establish a connection between your soles and the ground and visualise roots going downwards. If you can walk barefoot in the garden or the park, it would be even better. A quick grounding aid, it helps retain the balance especially on demanding days.
Take 10 Deep Breaths. Make them as slow and deep as you can. Not only does more oxygen reach your brain, you find your blood pressure dropping and a sense of calm enveloping you. Do it as often as you like, anywhere and anytime. Every time you exhale, feel your body relaxing further.
Rub your palms together and feel the vibrations. Gently place them over your closed eyes. Allow the warm energy of your palms to go within you for a few seconds to restore a sense of inner calm and harmony.
Affirmations work very well to raise our energy and to promote feelings of self-confidence and joy. Powerful statements that instil positive thoughts internally, replacing negative thinking effortlessly and easily if practiced daily.
Add a few tablespoons of sea salt or even common salt to your bath water. Not only will it cleanse you thoroughly of negative energy, it will relax your muscles.
Wear white or pastel coloured clothes. These colours resonate at a higher frequency and can actually raise your vibrations and bring in feelings of harmony.
Finally and most importantly, consciously maintain a positive attitude. Refuse to allow negative thoughts to cloud you.

The benefits of waking up early
Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”“
Early rising means waking up before sunrise. Waking up at this time means that the blood circulation in our body and mind is positive. Waking up after sunrise causes negative blood circulation and blood flow becomes sluggish. Late rising also induces baseless and negative dreaming and weakens the immune system
Benefits of rising early
The body and mind will stay fresh if you get up before sunrise
Constipation and indigestion will remain under control
The mind and mood will remain cheerful throughout the day
You will have sufficient time to think, plan and organise the day lying ahead of you
The power and capacity of the mind will increase
The memory will sharpen
The eyesight will not get weakened
What to do once you wake-up
Go for a walk in a park or garden with lot of trees, etc. to breathe fresh oxygen
Breathe deeply while walking
Do Yoga followed by Pranayama on an empty stomach (if possible in the open air) to rejuvenate your blood circulation and digestive system.
The best time to wake up early morning is between 3.30 to 4 am, because it is known as Brahma Muhurat or Amrit Vela according to Hindu Shastras (Scriptures). The vibrations during this period are the most rewarding and pure for worship and meditation and can expedite our journey towards God and self-realisation.
The sleep from 11 pm onwards for 5-6 hours is more than sufficient for any normal adult.
One can gaze at the Sun within a period of half an hour of its rising. Both the hands are to be crossed one on top of the other and the Sun can be seen as a dot in the spaces between the thumbs to improve eyesight and increase the concentration of mind. This will add to positivity in life in terms of happiness, success and brilliancy etc.
Suryanamaskar is highly beneficial at this point of time.
Offering water to the Sun in a copper vessel is also considered very good for prosperity.

REIKI
Reiki energy is the same subtle energy that enlivens all of creation. The underlying energetic structure of man, nature and space is gaining more respect today, as we move away from the dominant matter-first paradigm, to one in which consciousness is steadily reclaiming its rightful position. One of the simplest ways to illustrate this is the brain/mind relationship. Most science today still maintains that the mind somehow (proof has been elusive) evolved out of the gray matter of the brain. Perennial traditions know that mind (in this example), or rather consciousness is the very womb of life. In other words, the mind is not limited to the brain and therefore is not regulated by it, although the brain is an instrument of the mind, just as the mind is an instrument of the soul.”

The Buddha’s Words on Lovingkindness
The Buddha’s Words on Lovingkindness
This is what should be done
By those who are skilled in goodness,
And who know the path of peace:
Let them be able and upright,
Straightforward and gentle in speech,
Humble and not conceited,
Contented and easily satisfied,
Unburdened with duties and frugal in their ways,
Peaceful and calm, and wise and skillful,
Not proud and demanding in nature.
Let them not do the slightest thing
That the wise would later reprove.
Wishing: in gladness and in safety,
May all beings be at ease.
Whatever living beings there may be;
Whether they are weak or strong, omitting none,
The great or the mighty, medium, short or small,
The seen and the unseen,
Those living near and far away,
Those born and to-be-born—
May all beings be at ease!
Let none deceive another,
Or despise any being in any state.
Let none through anger or ill-will
Wish harm upon another.
Even as a mother protects with her life
Her child, her only child,
So with a boundless heart
Should one cherish all living beings;
Radiating kindness over the entire world,
Spreading upward to the skies,
And downward to the depths;
Outward and unbounded,
Freed from hatred and ill-will.
Whether standing or walking, seated or lying down,
Free from drowsiness,
One should sustain this recollection.
This is said to be the sublime abiding.
By not holding to fixed views,
The pure-hearted one, having clarity of vision,
Being freed from all sense desires,
Is not born again into this world.
This is what should be done
By those who are skilled in goodness,
And who know the path of peace:
Let them be able and upright,

ENERGY HEALING
Healing Meditation
Please try this meditation to relax and heal the body mind and soul.
Sit in a comfortable position
Start to imagine that your body is slowly filling with light, starting from the feet and slowly moving upwards
As the light is moving up your body ----- feel that this light is relaxing the muscles and your mind.

Arthritis
Arthritis
. Vegetable juices especially a mixture of carrot, beet and cucumber is very beneficial. Green salad with lemon juice, cooked vegetables like pumpkin, spices like ginger, coriander, asafoetida, and turmeric all contribute to the well being of the joints.
. Fruits like apples, oranges, grapes, papaya should be taken liberally. They are sources of vitamin C and vitamin E, which prevent breakdown of cartilage, generate the components necessary for the manufacture of cartilage and help generate collagen.
. Fill a small or medium jar with the whole cloves and cover them completely with mineral oil. Leave this mixture standing for a week or two. At night before going to bed dab the oil mixture onto the affected areas and rub in. The stiffness from arthritis will be greatly lessened.
. Applying either a hot or cold compress to the affected area will help relax the muscles and ease the stiffness.
. Drink sugar-free soda pop. Aspartame, an artificial sweetener found in certain brands provides relief that's comparable to anti-inflammatory agents.
. Epsom salts is commonly used as a soak to relieve aching joints and reduce swelling. Mix a few heaping teaspoons of Epsom salts into bath water and soak.
. Glucosamine supplements, often found in products that contain a combination with chondroitin, help relieve the pain and may slow the joint degeneration associated with osteoarthritis. The recommended dosage is 500 mg of glucosamine three times a day. Consume for two to three months for maximum benefit.

Lie down, stretch your body and keep it taut. Inhale and raise your right leg slowly, keeping your arms and hands on the floor. Hold your leg at an angle of 60° to the ground for as long as you can. Breathe normally. Return the leg slowly to base position. Repeat for the left leg. Repeat 5–6 times.
Ujjayee Pranayam
Now inhale with both nostrils and contract your neck muscles to produce a continuous sobbing sound—low but uniformly pitched and without any breaks. Inhale to your lungs’ maximum capacity. You should feel a slight vibration in your chest and head areas. Now form the pranayam mudra with your right hand and close the right nostril with your right thumb and exhale slowly through the left nostril. Repeat 8–10 times.
Deep Breathing and Dhyan
Sit in sukhasana. Inhale to your lungs’ maximum capacity and then exhale fully. Repeat this simple breathing 20-30 times but without any extra force. Make sure as you breathe only your lungs expand and contract, not stomach. Repeat to yourself, internally. Sit comfortably and do dhyan.
Anulom–Vilom Pranayam
Sit straight, breathe normally and form the pranayam mudra with right hand. Close right nostril with right thumb and exhale slowly through the left nostril. Now inhale, slowly to your maximum capacity. Now close left nostril with ring and little finger and lift the thumb off the right nostril. Exhale slowly through the right nostril. Now repeat the same processes with the left nostril to complete one round.
Sit in sukhasana and close your eyes. Now smile and think that you are free from all mental tensions, all ailments. Gradually, start laughing, louder and louder. Let yourself free and laugh out as much as you can. Raise your hands as well. Slowly lower your volume, reduce your tempo and return to the calm, smiling position.

Simple techniques to meditative awareness
Simple techniques to meditative awareness
Meditative awareness can be of immense help in facing reality and not moving away from it into our imagination or even escaping into ones ‘religious’ sanctuary
The more we care for our well-being the easier it will be for us to live even within the dysfunctional environments. Once we involve ourselves in the process of staying healthy in our life we can recognise the fact that whatever is happening in any moment is what we need to address it there and then – sensitively and intelligently. Meditative awareness, Osho points out, can be of immense help in facing reality and not moving away from it into our imagination and justifying ourselves, or even escaping into ones ‘religious’ sanctuary.
Meditation is one of the many of interventions now being increasingly recommended by physicians. The medical profession is now acknowledging the need for meditation for providing an effective alternative treatment. It is now being accepted that the science of the outer needs to interface with the science of the inner with a rhythmic breathing practice – where the breath comes in and the breath goes out. In Osho’s words, breath is the bridge between the body and the soul.
Osho suggests the following simple techniques which is very important and helpful to learn meditation and these are:
Whenever you find time relax your breathing for a while
Nothing else needs to be done; no need to relax the whole body. Weather seated in a train, in a plane or in a car simply relax your breathing. No one would ever come to know what you are doing and trying to do
Let the breathing of yours go on naturally; you just close your eyes and watch the breath going in and coming out
No need to concentrate while breathing otherwise any sound, person sitting next to you can become a disturbance. Meditation is not concentration – it is simply awareness
Be relaxed and watch your breathing without trying to exclude anything. The car making noise, traffic on the road, person next to you snoring – accept all
Nothing needs to be avoided; just an accepting awareness will do

Seven Spiritual Laws of Success
Seven Spiritual Laws of Success
Dilip kumar
The meaning of success is the continued expansion of happiness and the progressive realization of worthy goals by honoring others.
Success is a life filled with appreciation and gratitude. You could say the real meaning of success is the ability to fulfill your desires effortlessly and with ease.
Yet success- all by itself, including the creation of wealth, has been considered by some to be a process that requires hard work, and it is often considered by some to be at the expense of others.
What's needed is a more spiritual approach to success and to affluence; which is the abundant flow of all good things to you.
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success help many people live in harmony with nature and create with carefree-ness, joy, and love once they have realized it's true meaning.
1. The Law of Pure Potentiality
The source of all creation is pure consciousness... pure potentiality seeking expression from the un-manifest to the manifest. When we realize that our true self is one of pure potentiality, we align with the power that manifests everything in the universe.
2. The Law of Giving
The universe operates through dynamic exchange.... giving and receiving are different aspects of the flow of energy in the universe. And in our willingness to give that which we seek, we keep the abundance of the universe circulating in our lives.
3. The Law of Cause and Effect
Every action generates a force of energy that returns to us in like kind.... what we sow is what we reap. And when we choose actions that bring happiness and success to others, the fruit of our action is happiness and success.
4. The law of Least Effort
Nature's intelligence functions with effortless ease.... with care-freeness, harmony, and love. When we harness the forces of harmony, joy, and love, we create success and good fortune with effortless ease.
5. The Law of Intention and Desire
Inherent in every intention and desire is the mechanics for its fulfillment... intention and desire in the field of pure potentiality have infinite power. When we introduce an intention in the fertile ground of pure potentiality, we put this infinite organizing power to work for us.
6. The Law of Detachment
In detachment lies the wisdom of uncertainty..... in the wisdom of uncertainty lies the freedom from our past, from the known, which is the prison of past conditioning. in our willingness to step into the unknown, the field of all possibilities, we surrender ourselves to the creative mind that orchestrates the dance of the universe.
7 The Law of Purpose in Life
Everyone has a purpose in life... a unique gift or special talent to give to others. When we blend this unique talent with service to others, we experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals.

How to love your body...faults and all
How to love your body...faults and all
Here's how you can learn to love your body, faults and all - along with some help for your child to avoid body hang-ups, too
I'm glad to hear that Mischa Barton is on the mend after going into hospital for psychiatric observation. It's not clear what prompted her stay but the 23-year-old former star of American TV series The O.C. has a history of personal problems.
There has been speculation about her personal demons, including body image issues, especially after close-up photos of her cellulite were splashed across newspapers and websites last year. Earlier this year she was snapped looking painfully thin after dropping from a healthy size 12 to a size 6-8 in just six months.
Image obsession
To me, it's pretty sad that modern society is so image-obsessed that someone having cellulite prompts any comment at all. Beauty product manufacturers would all have us believe that it's a shameful problem that needs to be solved at all costs - in fact, cellulite is a perfectly normal distribution of fat that can affect any woman, regardless of size or health. Fat or slim, we've all experienced insecurities about our bodies at some point. I was a chubby child - and, as a result, had to put up with nicknames like "Dumbo" at school.
However the love and security I was lucky enough to have at home meant I could understand the name-calling kids were the ones with the problem, not me. And by the time I was in my late teens, the celebrities we wanted to emulate in those days were voluptuous women such as Marilyn Monroe, Lana Turner and Liz Taylor rather than the ultra-slim Posh whose figure is the one girls want today.
Unhealthy emphasis
These days there seems to be a much more unhealthy emphasis on body image. While some argue that honing in on celebrities' imperfections shows they aren't perfect, surely it's also an indirect criticism of all our bodies -making these perceived imperfections, which most of us share, seem more important than they are.
As ever, it's the most vulnerable - especially young women- who are most susceptible to these negative messages. Too much time spent dwelling on a poor body image is bad for self-esteem and can lead to unhealthy eating habits, weight fluctuations and depression.
Here's how you can learn to love your body, faults and all - along with some help for your child to avoid body hang-ups, too.
Improve your self-image
Keep it real
Don't make unrealistic comparisons. I think the worst body role models are women such as Pamela Anderson, Jordan and Victoria Beckham, pictured right - thin figures topped off with false, oversized boobs. These are bodies that can be only achieved by surgery. Apart from professional make-up and lighting, remember models in magazines also tend to benefit from a generous amount of airbrushing.
Focus on good bits
Write down what you like about your looks - everyone has good points - and work out ways to emphasise them, such as a new hairstyle, hair colour or style of jeans. If it takes you a while to think of any, it's a sign you've spent too long dwelling on the negative aspects.
Ditch the diet
Diets don't work - I was a serial dieter for years. Sure, the weight came off but it would always creep back on again. The key to losing weight successfully is to change your eating habits in a way that's sustainable in the long term. You don't have to ban foods or go hungry - fill up on healthy stuff like fruit, veg and whole grains and cut back on the fat. Good changes include choosing lean cuts of meat, low-fat dairy products and grilled rather than deep-fried food.
Make fitness your goal
This is by far the best way to make the most of what you have and boost self-esteem. Regular exercise helps you burn fat, tone your body, give more energy and lift your mood by boosting production of feelgood chemicals called endorphins. Yes, it takes effort and commitment but seeing your fitness levels improve will give you a great sense of achievement.
Get it in perspective
Don't fall into the trap of thinking "If only I had a smaller bum, flat stomach or better boobs, life would be easier." There's no such thing as a miracle cure and it doesn't even work for celebs. Last year Kerry Katona had thousands of pounds worth of surgery, including a boob reduction and liposuction, yet she put on weight again.
Be comfortable with who you are
The people least likely to be affected by body image problems are those who put value on other, non-physical attributes. Before I had a family, much of my self-worth was tied up in being a doctor. It made me feel useful and needed. Work on being good at something, whether it's your job or a hobby like playing in a band, enjoying a sport or being a great cook.
Look outwards
A lot of personal unhappiness comes from looking inwards and dwelling on perceived shortcomings, physical or otherwise. Looking outwards helps us put things in perspective. A great way to achieve this is to do something for someone else - studies have shown that people who do regular voluntary work are less likely to be depressed than non-volunteers.
Help kids to value more than looks
(1) Keep quiet about your own hang-ups: Kids are naturally programmed to learn quickly and copy, so bemoaning your big hips or thick ankles sets a bad example which could be damaging if they've inherited the same traits.
(2) Don't criticise your child's body, even in fun: Kids may take teasing to heart, even if it's meant affectionately, especially when they reach early teens.
(3) Praise them for doing well at school, in sport or for good behaviour - showing kindness, for example. This will help them value things other than looks.
(4) Let them know you care about them for who they are as well as what they do. This will help them feel loved and secure, two vital criteria for lifelong self-esteem.
(5) Encourage a healthy but relaxed attitude to food: Set a good example by eating the food you'd like them to eat - if you don't eat your veggies, why should they? - and include treats but only in moderation. Above all, try to make mealtimes a fun experience.

Breathing exercise to reduce stress
Breathing exercise to reduce stress
Five minutes a day can keep stress away
Negative emotions are powerful, difficult to control and cloud the way one views their life. With all the news of global concerns, plus the demands of career and family, it is no wonder people sometimes feel stressed and pessimistic. Breathing Out to the Ocean reduces stress fast.
The Inner Renewal Meditation takes about five minutes. Practice this daily
Start by sitting on a chair with your spine erect and your feet flat on the floor. Close your eyes.
Imagine you are in front of an ocean. What is important is your intention. Breathe slowly and relax. During exhalation, have the intention to breathe out your negativities and discomforts.
Inhale deeply, then breathe out to the ocean any discomfort, tension or pain in your body. Do it many times. Let the ocean absorb the discomforts and impurities.
Inhale deeply, then breathe out to the ocean stress or emotional pain and discomfort. (1 minute).
Inhale deeply, then breathe out the following to the ocean. Each time, let the ocean absorb them:
Negative emotions
Depression, boredom or frustrations
Fears, guilt and worries
Resentment and anxiety
Inhale deeply and breathe out to the ocean harmful thoughts against anyone or any being. Let the ocean absorb them (30 seconds).
Inhale deeply, and then breathe out any mental limitations and blockages. Let the ocean absorb them (30 seconds).
Inhale deeply, then breathe out any tendencies of excessive criticism, control and manipulation of others. Let the ocean absorb all the negative tendencies (30 seconds)
Inhale deeply, then breathe out anything that limits your freedom or obstructs your inner development. Let the ocean absorb any obstacles (30 seconds).
Relax and enjoy your new emotional and mental well-being.
Practicing the Inner Renewal Meditation is a great way to gain a more positive perspective in just a few minutes whether at work or home. In fact, when family members also practice the Inner Renewal Meditation, students find it easier to concentrate for exams, couples enjoy a more harmonious relationship and family tensions subside.

MEDITATION
The car making noise, traffic on the road, person next to you snoring – accept all
Nothing needs to be avoided; just an accepting awareness will do

peace of mind
Look at the trees, look at the birds, look at the clouds, look at the stars... and if you have eyes you will be able to see that the whole existence is joyful. Everything is simply happy. Trees are happy for no reason; they are not going to become prime ministers or presidents and they are not going to become rich and they will never have any bank balance. Look at the flowers - for no reason. It is simply unbelievable how happy flowers are. ~Osho

meditation
Thank you, have a fantastic week also.
If you let go a little, you will have a little peace. If you let go a lot, you will have even more peace. So wherever you are attached, let go of that and come back to the center. Learn to see all movement of life with balance and openness.
In my life, the more I let go of things, the more bliss I experience.
When you're meditating deeply and your mind is silent, that is when you'll experience the remarkable peace that comes with just letting it all go.
You don't have to meditate deeply to let go.
When something arises in your life that causes upset, consciously take a deep breath. As you're breathing in, close your eyes and feel the peace that comes with breath awareness.
Let your breath be still for a second

AFTER RAWANA WAS KILLED
GLORIFICATION OF SRI SITA-RAMA
Mathura, september 28.09.2009
[This year, 2009, September 28th is Rama Vijayotsava. which is the day commemorating Lord Rama’s killing Ravana. In honor of this day, we are sending out Srila Narayana Gosvami Maharaja’s lecture in glorification of Sri Sri Sita-Rama:]
After Ravana was killed, Sita devi had to undergo the agni pariksa, fire test. Of course, Maya-Sita entered the fire, and the real Sita devi remained unharmed – proving that she was completely pure and chaste. Rama then gave the kingdom of Ravana to Vivisana, Ravana's brother, and after that he took Sita devi and all their associates to Ayodhya on a mystic airplane. There were millions and billions of associates, but this airplane was able to expand so that they could all fit on it.
On their journey, Rama pointed out to Sita all the places where they had enjoyed pastimes together, or where He and Laksmana had killed various demons. For example, Rama would say, "Oh look, here is where we built the bridge to Lanka. Do you remember?" When they reached Kishkinda, where all of Rama's monkey associates lived, they stopped. Sita devi then invited all the wives of the monkeys to come aboard the airplane, as they were also very interested to see Rama's coronation.
The party stayed one night and then went to Citrakut. Hanuman took the form of a brahmana and went to the place where Bharata was staying in Nandigram. Bharata was living the life of a renunciate, wearing simple cloth, with matted hair and living on fruits and roots; and all of his ministers lived in the same way. In the guise of a brahmana, Hanuman approached Bharata and said, "Oh Bharata Maharaja, Rama has come. Prepare to welcome him!" Upon hearing that his dear brother had finally returned, he was overjoyed and fainted. When he came to consciousness he said, "I want to give you many gifts. So please accept 18,000 cows, as many beautiful women as you desire, horses and other wealth. Still I cannot give you anything equal in value to the news you have given me." Hanuman then returned to his original form, and Bharata said, "Oh, you are Hanuman!"
After Rama’s abhiseka ceremony, he wanted to give many gifts to everyone. Sita devi thought of a very nice gift to give Hanuman, so she gave him her most beautiful pearl necklace. Hanuman took it, examined it and broke it, and the pearls scattered all over the floor. Sita devi was surprised and asked, "What are you doing?" Hanuman replied, "Oh, I was just seeing if 'Rama' is written anywhere here." "But don't you know Rama is in your heart?" she said. Then Hanuman tore open his chest. In this way, Rama’s associates teach us that whatever is given to others should be in connection with Krsna.
Lord Rama and Sita devi stayed together for many years, and everyone was very happy within their kingdom. Some people, however, criticized Rama for accepting Sita back after she had been in the palace of Ravana. According to Vedic principles, it is unacceptable to accept one's wife after her being away for one night – what to speak of one year. One evening, the wife of a washer-man came home late. Her husband immediately told her that she could not enter the house. He threw her out saying, "I am not like Rama, who accepted his wife back after she'd been with another man."
This news spread and the story got back to Rama. He was most disturbed, and realized that he had to do something. How could he rule a kingdom in which some of the people did not have faith in him? He called a meeting, asking all his brothers to come; but none of them could give him any advice. He himself then realized what to do. He remembered that Sita had desired to visit all the sages in the forest and shower them with gifts. He asked Laksmana to take her to the asrama of those sages, deliver his sorrowful message to her, and then leave her in the forest. Laksmana was devastated that he was called upon to do this, but he could not say anything, as he was Rama's younger brother. He therefore had to accept that responsibility.
Sumanta was Laksmana's chariot driver, and moreover a very great minister of Rama. Laksmana told everything about Rama's order to Sumanta and said, "My life is full of miseries. Now, today is the biggest misery of my life!" They passed Prayag and went across a river. "Valmiki's asrama is here," Laksmana told Sita. Then, with a heavy heart he told her, "Everyone is accusing Rama of accepting an unchaste wife. Many people don't have full faith in him now; so how is it possible for him to rule the kingdom and guide the citizens properly?"
When Sita devi heard this she fainted, and when she revived she said, "I don't want to create any difficulties for him. I do not want him to be disturbed by the public. Please pay my obeisances to all. Laksmana, I want to pray at your lotus feet, as I have offended you twice. The first night in Ayodhya, after our marriage ceremony, I stopped you from massaging Rama's lotus feet. Though this had been your cherished duty for many years, I took this away from you. When you asked Rama about this, he could not answer. Then we asked the great sage Vasistha and he said, 'The duties now have to be divided. So Laksmana, all the duties outside of the house should be taken by you. Sita devi should now perform all the duties inside of the house.' In this way it was decided.
"Secondly, I was once allured by a deer in the forest when we were in exile. I heard Marici call out, 'Alas, Laksmana!' Assuming it was Rama's voice, I told you to go immediately to help Him. You said, 'No Sita, it is an illusion created by a demon.' I insisted and told you, 'I know. You are a spy of Bharata, and you have lusty feelings for me. That is why you don't want to save your brother!' These words pierced your heart. You replied that you always saw me as your mother and had never even seen my face; you had only seen my feet. You could not bear these harsh words. Then, when you went to see Rama, he chastised you saying, 'Why did you take heed of the words of that woman?' Then Ravana came here and begged, 'biksana dehi' three times. When I did not want to come outside of your circle of protection he threatened me, 'I curse you that your husband will die if you do not give anything to me here!' So please forgive me for these offenses."
After leaving Sita devi in the forest Laksmana lamented, "Oh, alas! I will surely give up my life!" Sumanta tried to pacify him, and told him the truth of the matter. "Once I was with Dasaratha Maharaja, and at that time two sages, Vasistha Rsi and Durvasa Muni, came to visit him. Maharaja Dasaratha served them very nicely and then asked them to kindly tell him about the future of his four children. Vasistha Rsi remained silent and Durvasa Muni responded by saying, ‘Oh, you have four sons. Very good." Dasaratha Maharaja said, "Yes, first tell me about Rama's future." Durvasa said, "Rama's future will undoubtedly be full of miseries. He will have to leave Ayodhya, and everyone there will feel unbearable separation from Him. You will not be able to bear His absence, and you will die in separation. Rama will later have to be separated from his wife, and after suffering immensely they will become reunited. Then again they will have to be apart; and Rama will rule the kingdom alone without his wife. Do not tell this to anyone." Dasaratha Maharaja was in complete shock, but he promised that he would not speak what he had heard to anyone. He said, "From today, I am your disciple."
Having heard this from Sumanta, Laksmana realized that his brother Rama is in fact the Supreme Lord Visnu. Sumanta continued telling Laksmana the story that Durvasa Muni had told to Dasaratha Maharaja: "Once, a very big battle ensued between the demigods and the demons. The demons were defeated and went to the wife of Brghu Maharaja to take shelter; and, being very merciful, she gave them shelter. The demigods went to Lord Vamanadeva and told him the situation. He then took His cakra and beheaded Brghu Maharaja's wife. Brghu Maharaja was very upset and cursed Vamanadeva saying, "You are responsible for my wife's death. I loved her very much. Now I will have to suffer so much in separation from her. For this I curse you that you will have to suffer in the same way in the future. You will have a very beautiful wife who will serve you in every way. You will be fully satisfied and completely enamored with her feminine grace and charm, and her saintly qualities. You will then be separated from her, and you will always suffer immensely from that pain of separation." Hearing this, Vamanadeva happily accepted the curse. He knew that in the future the whole world would be benefited by this. Also, this was but a pretext, as separation naturally increases the happiness of meeting.
Sita devi was walking towards the asrama of Valmiki Rsi, when some of his brahmacaris spotted her. They informed Valmiki that a lady looking like a demigoddess was coming. Valmiki came out to greet her, and immediately recognized who she was. He said, "Oh, you are Sita devi, the wife of Lord Rama. I know this because I have written the Ramayana. Please come in." The ladies there were very pleased to see Sita devi and said, "Oh, please allow us to serve you." Valmiki instructed them how to serve her in every way.
When Rama sent Satrughna to Mathura, he happened to come near to Valmiki's asrama on the way. He paid obeisance to Sita devi and her sons, Luv and Kush, from a distance. Luv and Kush were very intelligent children. Valmiki was very expert in archery, singing and music, and he taught Luv and Kush these arts. They could thus sing in all ragas very sweetly. Valmiki also taught them the Ramayana.
No one in the entire kingdom was there to console Rama. However, the ladies were there to console Sita devi in the asrama of Valmiki. One day Rama turned to Vasistha Rsi and said, "Will you please perform a sacrifice?" Vasistha replied, "Then you must call your wife back." "Oh, I cannot do that." "Then you must remarry," he insisted. Rama said, "It is not possible." "Then you will have to make a golden deity of Sita devi." Vasistha then performed the sacrifice. In fact, every year he performed a very big sacrificial ceremony for Rama, near Naimisaranya on the bank of Gomati, with a new golden deity of Sita devi each year.
One year many kings and sages were called, and Valmiki came with Luv and Kush. The boys were extremely beautiful, with very broad chests and slender waists. During a rest period, Valmiki asked them to sing Ramayana. They had melodious voices, and they sang in such a heart-rendering way that they captured everyone's hearts. Rama was especially touched, and tears came to His eyes. Valmiki had previously warned the boys, “If anyone asks you who you are, tell them, 'I am a disciple of Valmiki'”. Rama ordered Laksmana, "Go and give them eighteen thousand gold coins and many, many beautiful clothes and gifts. Then ask them who they are."
When they were presented with these gold coins, clothes, and gifts, they said, "What will we do with all these things? We are brahmacaris." Then Laksmana asked which dynasty they belonged to, and they replied, "You seem very learned. Why ask this? Why not ask who is our Gurudeva? We are disciples of Valmiki Rsi." For five or seven days they came and recited the Ramayana, and after many days Rama and others came to know who they were.
Rama then called Valmiki and requested that Sita devi come and prove Her chastity so that he could call her back. Valmiki said, "I have never spoken a lie in my life. I can assure you that Sita is completely pure and chaste." Rama said, "I know that. I'm quite confident of this, but I want proof for my citizens. So please bring Her here. Then we'll see what we can do."
At this time Brahma, Sankara, and many demigods and goddesses came, curious to see this event. Sita devi sent Luv and Kusa ahead to their father. She arrived thereafter, and Valmiki spoke gently to her, "O daughter, Sita devi. Come forward and prove your chastity." Sita devi said, "Mother, please prove this to one and all, that I have never served any other man. I have never even had thoughts of any man other than Rama in my whole life. Please accept me, mother." Pritivi-devi appeared from the earth and Sita sat on her lap on a golden throne. In a moment, Prthivi-devi completely covered Her. In other words, she took Sita devi with her, back under the Earth. Rama couldn't bear to see Sita leave him like this, and he fainted. Then, when he returned to consciousness, he prayed to Prthivi-devi, requesting her to bring back Sita. He told her, "One time I went with a bow to the ocean and he was very much afraid. So I can turn you into dust in a moment." Just then Brahma came and told Rama, "No. Don't do it! This is the last time. Sitaji has gone to your own abode, so you should very quickly wind up your pastimes and go there."

10 tips for good night's sleep
10 tips for good night's sleep
Stick to a schedule. Erratic bedtimes do not allow for your body to align to the proper circadian rhythms. Mum was right when she set a time we always had to go to sleep as kids. Also, make sure you try to keep the same schedule on weekends too, otherwise the next morning, you’d wake later and feel overly tired.
Sleep only at night. Avoid daytime sleep if possible. Daytime naps steal hours from nighttime slumber. Limit daytime sleep to 20-minute, power naps.
Exercise. It’s actually known to help you sleep better. Your body uses the sleep period to recover its muscles and joints that have been exercised. Twenty to thirty minutes of exercise every day can help you sleep, but be sure to exercise in the morning or afternoon. Exercise stimulates the body and aerobic activity before bedtime may make falling asleep more difficult.
Taking a hot shower or bath before bed helps bring on sleep because they can relax tense muscles.
Avoid eating just before bed. Avoid eat large meals or spicy foods before bedtime. Give yourself at least 2 hours from when you eat to when you sleep. This allows for digestion to happen (or at least start) well before you go to sleep so your body can rest well during the night, rather than churning away your food.
Avoid caffeine. It keeps you awake and that’s now what you want for a good nights sleep. We all know that.
Read a fiction book. It takes you to a whole new world if you really get into it. And then take some time to ponder over the book as you fall asleep. I find as I read more and more, regardless of the book, I get more tired at night and so find it easier to fall asleep. Different for others?
Have the room slightly cooler. I prefer this to a hot room. I prefer to turn off the heat and allow the coolness to circulate in and out of the windows. If I get cold, I wear warmer clothes. It also saves on the bills as you’re not going to require the heat all night long.
Sleep in silence. I find sleeping with no music or TV on more easy and restful. I guess others are different, but sleep with no distractions is best for a clearer mind.
Avoid alcohol before bedtime. It’s a depressant; although it may make it easier to fall asleep, it causes you to wake up during the night. As alcohol is digested your body goes into withdrawal from the alcohol, causing nighttime awakenings and often nightmares for some people.

Exercise stimulates the body and aerobic activity before bedtime may make falling asleep more difficult.

hari katha
You should know your spiritual identity, your identity beyond the body. Everyone should know the true conception of jiva-tattva, the established truth of the spirit soul, and for this purpose I will explain the Dasa-mula Tattva (the ten conclusive truths established by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu) as written by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura in Sri Jaiva-dharma. [The first of the ten is actually the body of evidence (pramana), that which establishes the conclusive fundamental truths, and the next nine are those truths, which are proven by the pramana.]
amnayah praha tattvam harim iha paramam sarva-saktim rasabdhim
tad-bhinnamsams ca jivan prakrti-kavalitan tad-vimuktams ca bhavad
bhedabheda-prakasam sakalam api hareh sadhanam suddha-bhaktim
sadhyam tat-pritim evety upadisati janan gaura-candrah svayam sah
“1. Pramana (that which establishes the conclusive fundamental truths)
The teachings of the Vedas received through the guru-parampara are known as amnaya. The infallible evidence of the Vedas, of the smrti-sastras (the corollaries to the Vedas) headed by the Srimad Bhagavatam, as well as evidence such as direct sense perception, that concur with the guidance of the Vedas, these are all accepted as pramana (evidence). This pramana establishes the following prameyas (conclusive truths):
Prameyas:
2. Parama-tattva – Sri Hari alone is the Supreme Absolute Truth.
3. Sarva-saktiman – He is the possessor of all potencies.
4. Akhila-rasamrta-sindhu – He is the ocean of all nectarean mellows and divine sweetness.
5. Vibhinnamsa-tattva – Both the mukta (liberated) and baddha (conditioned)
jivas are His eternally separated parts and parcels.
6. Baddha-jivas –Conditioned souls are subject to the control and covering of maya.
7. Mukta-jivas – Liberated souls are forever free from maya.
8. Acintya-Bhedabheda-tattva – The entire universe, consisting of the conscious
(cit) and unconscious (acit), is Sri Hari’s acintya-bhedabheda-prakasa, that is
to say, it is His manifestation which is inconceivably both different and nondifferent
from Him.
9. Suddha-bhakti – Pure devotional service is the only practice (sadhana) to
attain spiritual perfection (sadhya).
10. Krsna-priti – Transcendental love and affection for Sri Krsna is the one and
only final object of attainment (sadhya-vastu).
The Supreme Personality of Godhead Sri Gaurangadeva has herein instructed ten distinct tattvas (fundamental truths) to the faithful jivas.” (Dasa-mula, verse 1)
Regarding any subject matter, in order for us to determine whether that subject matter is wrong or right, we want some proof. In regard to transcendental jiva-tattva (the science of the soul), Krsna-tattva (the science of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krsna), bhakti-tattva (the science of loving devotion to that Supreme Personality of Godhead), and other tattvas, (established truths) we must know what the proof is.
The proof is the Vedic literature, as told by the Supreme Lord Himself, which is accepted by the guru-parampara (disciplic succession of bona fide spiritual masters). Proof cannot be a mortal or mundane thing. Your mother is the authority for knowing who your father is. Can you give any proof regarding the identity of your father or mother? You cannot. You will have to say that, “My mother and father are proof.” Your mother says, “He is your father.” You were not an eye-witness. It is impossible for you to have seen your father when you were conceived, so you accept your mother’s authority. Similarly, to know who the Supreme Lord is, who we are, and what bhakti is, we accept the authoritative words of the Supreme Lord, Krsna, which our guru-parampara has accepted.
What does the guru-parampara tell us regarding what is to be proved by the evidence of the Lord’s words? It is nine items presented in the Dasa-mula tattva. If we want to perform bhajana, devotional service with a distinctive mood of spontaneous loving devotion to the Lord, we must know these nine items of Dasa-mula which are proven in the Vedas.
The first evidence is as follows:
haris tv ekam tattvam vidhi-siva-suresa-pranamitah
yad evedam brahma prakrti-rahitam tat tv anumahah
paratma tasyamso jagad-anugato visva-janakah
sa vai radha-kanto nava-jalada-kantis cid-udayah
“Indeed Sri Hari, to whom Brahma, Siva, Indra and other demigods continuously offer pranama, is the only Supreme Absolute Truth. Nirvisesa-brahma that is devoid of sakti is Sri Hari’s bodily effulgence. Maha-Visnu, who has created the universe and who has entered into it as the indwelling Supersoul of all, is simply His partial manifestation. It is that Sri Hari alone, the very form of transcendental reality (cit-svarupa), whose complexion is the color of a freshly formed thunder cloud, who is Sri Radha-vallabha, the beloved of Sri Radha.” (Dasa-mula, verse 2)
Krsna is the Absolute Truth, and I will explain this in an easy way for your understanding.
We accept Sri Krsna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, but the father of Jesus Christ, God, Allah, Khoda, and Jehovah are also said to be the Supreme Personality of Godhead. There are not two Gods. The fact is that the Supreme Lord is one without a second. In different languages, in different countries, and in different sections of the world, people call that same Supreme Lord by various names.
But the conception of the Supreme Lord should be perfect. We accept the Supreme Lord according to the different languages and cultures, but those conceptions should be perfect, otherwise the various conceptions will not be the same. If they are all perfect, they will all be the same. *[see endnote 1]
It must be considered whether or not God has a form. The Supreme Lord must have a form. He must be very humble, very merciful, and stronger than anyone; He should have all qualities. Krsna is very beautiful and charming, and He has a sweet form. He can attract anyone by playing on His flute, while He is wearing a peacock feather on His head, and sporting with innumerable beautiful cows. He has many sweet pastimes, such as placing His head on the lotus feet of His most beloved Srimati Radhika, and going cow-herding. He is extremely merciful; there is no comparison to His mercy and compassion. Whenever and wherever you call Him, He will come in His personal form.
Now we will compare different religious understandings in order to determine whether or not God has a form. The Bible states that God created man after His own image. God must have some form, but what form He has is not mentioned. Has he performed any sweet pastimes? Has He given His audience? We cannot ascertain this from the Bible. We have heard that He is merciful, but how merciful is He? Can He maintain us? Can He bring something to us? In the Bhagavad-gita it has been told:
ananyas cintayanto mam
ye janah paryupasate
tesam nityabhiyuktanam
yoga-ksemam vahamy aham
[“Those who always worship Me with exclusive devotion, meditating on My transcendental form—to them I carry what they lack, and I preserve what they have.” (Bhagavad-gita, 9.22)]
He has maintained all the Pandavas, and all the varieties of His devotees.
We want to know whether or not God has any pastimes and an attractive form and qualities. Does He have a mother and father or not? If all other incarnations and manifestations of God are in Him, then He is the Supreme Lord – otherwise He is only the Lord. We need to know that the manifestations of His body are called Allah, Khoda, and other nomenclatures, and the rays of His body are called the brahmajyoti, brahma, Brahman, and other nomenclatures.
If you pray to Krsna from the core of your heart, He will come and give you His audience. He will play with you, and He will accept you as His mother, father, friend, or most beloved. If you pray to a formless God, will He come? Will He accept you as father, mother, beloved, or friend? He will not, because He has no form. If you pray to Krsna’s incarnation Narayana, who has a transcendental form, He may come, but we cannot have a distinct relationship with Him. It is very easy to have the audience of Krsna if you call Him as He is, in His sweet, human-like form. He will come and play with you like your family member.
The evil witch Putana came to kill Krsna with very strong poison. However, because she disguised herself in the form of a mother, Krsna gave her a motherly position. How wonderful and merciful Krsna is! We have not heard about Allah, Khoda, or any other incarnation of the Supreme Lord being as merciful as Krsna.
I am going to tell you a very interesting story. In his young age, Jesus went to Vrndavana, Jagannatha Puri, and other holy places in India. He saw the Deities of Jagannatha and Krsna, and then he returned to his own land and began to preach about Christ. Who is Christ? We call Him Krsna. In Jagannatha Puri we call him Kroosna. From Kroosna came Christa (‘Krsna’ in Hebrew), and then Christas, and then Christ. So Christ is none other than Krsna. Jesus is the son of Christ, meaning Krsna. He accepted and preached that because his father has a form, he also has a form. The Bible is true – that God created man after His own image. Krsna is the same as Christ. There is no difference.
Now I am coming to our Muslim brothers. They accept the Koran. It is written in the Koran, "Inallah kalaka mein suratihi – Allah or Khoda has form, and from that form He fashioned man.” Surht means ‘form.’ What is the meaning? It means there is none greater than Allah. The same thing has been written in the Koran. Allah, or Khoda, is so much greater than any living being, but there is no information about His being minute. On the other hand, the Vedas state that Krsna is greater than everything else and at the same time He is smaller than everything else. *[See Endnote 2] So all names are the names of the Supreme Lord Krsna, and thus we can call out and remember Krsna as the Supreme Lord, as has been told by our guru-parampara.
Sometimes, when medicines are very bitter, the mother or father gives them sugar-coated. What we are explaining may seem very bitter, but it is very important. We want to give a place for some ‘bitter’ medicine in your heart, so that it will make you healthy, wealthy, and wise.

“Athough Sri Bhagavan is non-different from His inconceivable transcendental potency (para-sakti), He has His own independent nature and desires. His para-sakti consists of three aspects – cit-sakti (spiritual potency), jiva-sakti (marginal potency), and maya-sakti (external potency) – and He always inspires them to engage in their respective functions. That para-tattva (Supreme Absolute Truth) even while performing all these activities, still remains immutable and is eternally situated in the fully transcendental svarupa of His own glory.” (Dasa-mula verse 3)
sa vai hladinyas ca pranaya-vikrter hladana-ratas

“There are three functions of svarupa-sakti: hladini, sandhini and samvit. Krsna remains perpetually immersed in the pranaya-vikara of the hladini-sakti. Because of the confidential bhavas evoked by samvit-sakti, He is ever-situated as rasika-sekhara in relishing newer and newer rasa. That supremely independent pastime prince, Sri Krsna, is ever-drowned within the ocean of vraja-rasa in His transcendental bliss-filled abodes, headed by Vrndavana, which are manifest through sandhini-sakti. All glories to Him!” (Dasa Mula, verse 4)
What is the purport? The Supreme Lord Krsna is so merciful that if you so desire, He will come and play with you. No other incarnation of God can come and play with us. Therefore, we should worship Sri Sri Radha and Krsna. You are all fortunate to come to this line, chanting and worshipping this very Krsna. Moreover, one day you will become fortunate enough to be like Krsna’s most elevated associates, the gopis and cowherd boys.
sphulingah rddhagner iva cid-anavo jiva-nicayah
hareh suryasyaivaprthag api tu tad-bheda-visayah
vase maya yasya prakrti-patir evesvara iha

“Just as many tiny sparks burst out from a blazing fire, so the innumerable jivas are like atomic, spiritual particles in the rays of the spiritual sun, Sri Hari. Though these jivas are non-different from Sri Hari, they are also eternally different from Him. The eternal difference between the jiva and the Supreme Lord is that the Lord is the master of maya-sakti, whereas the jiva can fall under the control of maya, even in his liberated stage, due to his constitutional nature.” (Dasa-mula, verse 5)
Now we are coming to the fifth point. Who are we? Who is the soul? There are two kinds of souls.
[Question:] Why did the jiva, who was not influenced by maya when he was in the tatastha region, glance towards the material energy instead of the spiritual energy? Why from the tatastha would one want to jump to something where he is going to get whipped?
[Srila Narayana Gosvami Maharaja:] Krsna’s mercy is causeless and unlimited. He has given us a precious jewel, which is called independence. No one can override this independence, and even Krsna cannot override it although it was He who gave it. So, anywhere the jiva may be, he is independent to do anything – but he is bound to take the fruit or result of his activities. Krsna may crush him or give him so many sweet things.
This independence is a very high class of jewel for the jiva, without which he would be a material thing, inert, like a stone, and would thus be of no importance. Krsna Himself has free will and is quite independent to do anything. The jiva is a minute part of that Supreme Lord, and that is why he also has independence, but because he is minute he can be covered by maya by misuse of that independence.
At that time, when the jiva had to choose, he had no intelligence to determine what is good or what is bad, for he had neither seen the material world nor the spiritual world.
[Question:] It seems to me that it is just chance that somebody who has no knowledge decides to go up to the spiritual world or down to this material existence.
[Srila Narayana Maharaja:] You can think that it is chance, but it is not. It is the will of Krsna. It is a kind of pastime of Krsna.
[Question:] From that position of tatastha, before the jiva first comes to this material world, it is very difficult to use one’s freewill to go to the spiritual world, isn’t it?
[Srila Narayana Gosvami Maharaja:] It is not difficult. It is difficult to come to this world, because the potency of the jiva is to serve Krsna. It is very much possible to go to Goloka or Vaikuntha from there, but since you are here, follow me and I will take you.
All those who have doubts may come forward, and we will try to eradicate those doubts.
[Question:] Why is there so much confusion on this topic, even amongst certain gurus and sannyasis?
[Srila Narayana Gosvami Maharaja:] Confusion about this subject is due to ignorance, due to not associating with Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, in whose Jaiva-dharma all the proper information is found. Not only Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, but also Srila Jiva Gosvami, Srila Rupa Gosvami, Srila Sanatana Gosvami, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Brahma, Narada, Suka, and all other self-realized souls confirm the same truths.
You should know what Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura has told in Jaiva-dharma from the words of Srila Jiva Gosvami and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja has also given the same philosophical conclusions.
What is your question?
[Question:] Since we are manifest from God, how could we have been so ignorant as to have chosen to come here?
[Srila Narayana Gosvami Maharaja:] The seed of a tree, or creeper, or plant has all the potency of what will appear later on, but what will later appear is now in a latent position. The jiva is like that. Everything about the form, nature, and service of the spirit soul is present in potency, but not manifested. As long as the jiva is not exposed to the spiritual energy, not performing bhagavat-bhajana, the condition of his spiritual identity is that of a seed. He has no true power of discrimination.
[Question:] Like a baby?
[Srila Narayana Gosvami Maharaja:] You should know the answers intellectually. After that you should practice and realize these truths for yourself. It is best to follow the principles of bhakti, to do bhajana, to chant and remember Krsna – and then all kinds of knowledge will automatically come to you and you will realize that knowledge. Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura has explained this.
It is not that every ‘why’ has an answer. It is like someone asking, “If Krsna dies, what will happen?” This is not a good question to ask. Try to chant, remember and meditate on Krsna, and everything will come in your trance.
[*Endnote 1: [Oh, yes, certainly. Certainly. Yes. The same thing, just like I have given example several times that pocket dictionary and the big dictionary, both of them are dictionaries. It is not that because it is small pocket dictionary, therefore it is not dictionary. It is also dictionary. So when he's advanced and finished pocket dictionary, he may consult the big dictionary. That is the difference. Bible is not different from Bhagavad-gita, but when one is perfectly conversant with Bible, he'll understand more nicely Bhagavad-gita. It is not contradictory. It is helpful. (Srila Prabhupada’s lecture on, Caitanya-caritamrta, Adi-lila 7.109-114, San Francisco, February 20, 1967)
[*Endnote 2: Similarly, one may think of Krsna as smaller than the smallest. That is also a kind of greatness. Krsna can manufacture this gigantic cosmic manifestation, and He can also manufacture a small insect. In a book one may sometimes find a small running insect smaller than a period. This is Krsna's craftsmanship. Anor aniyan mahato mahiyan (Katha Upanisad 1.2.20): He can create something greater than the greatest and smaller than the smallest. Now human beings have manufactured the 747 airplane, which according to their conception is very big. But can they produce an airplane as small as a flying insect? That is not possible. Actual greatness, however, is not one-sided. One who is actually great can become greater than the greatest and smaller than the smallest. (Teachings of Queen Kunti, Chapter 13, by Srila Bhaktivedanta Svami Prabhupada)
We understand from Vedic literature that Brahman, or the spirit, is anor aniyamsam, smaller than an atom, and mahato mahiyamsam, greater than the greatest. As far as we can conceive, the space which contains the universe is the greatest, but Krsna has shown millions of universes in His mouth. The greatness of God cannot be comprehended by the living entities, who are part and parcel of God. As living entities, we are very minute, infinitesimal, and God is infinite. Indeed, the magnitude of the individual spirit soul is so microscopic that it cannot be seen. One cannot even imagine it with his material senses. Therefore it is said that the spirit soul is smaller than an atom (anor aniyamsam). (The Mathless Gift, by Srila Bhaktivedanta Svami Prabhupada)
Six atoms, trasarenu. Six atoms, when it is combined, we can see through the windows with the sunshine so many trasarenu. Those small particles which we see through the window with sunshine, they are combination of six atoms. They are not original atom. But the atomic constitution of the living entity is a thousand times smaller than the atom. Therefore anor aniyan mahato mahiyan: "He is greater than the greatest and smaller than the smallest." The smaller than the smallest, we are. We are also part and parcel. Just like the sun and the sunshine. The sunshine is combination of small atomic molecular parts, shining parts. They are also different. They are not combined together. That is scientific. Similarly, we are also sparks of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. (Srila Prabhupada’s lecture of Auckland, N.Z., 1972)]

only final object of attainment (sadhya-vastu).
